Kyoto Lunch
Dim Sum at Hong Kong Yum Cha Hoshimachi
For lunch, I decided to have the real deal at Hong Kong Yum Cha Hoshimachi. It’s within walking distance of Karasuma Oike Station. It was crowded and there was a line outside, so I seriously considered going back to the nearby biryani place I’d visited before, but in the end I decided to try somewhere new after all.

I was shown to a table on the second floor, and the first thing I ordered was a beer. I knew in my head that beer wasn’t really the right move with dim sum, but I couldn’t resist. On weekends they don’t offer a lunch set, so I ordered à la carte. I started with some safe choices: seasonal vegetables stir-fried with XO sauce and shrimp dumplings.

Everyone loves cheung fun, and here they finish it by grilling it and drenching it in XO sauce, which gave it a completely different kind of deliciousness. The filling was shrimp—but specifically dried shrimp—and when you bit into it firmly, all that savory flavor burst out.

I’ve forgotten what this one was… I think it was probably steamed chicken with black bean sauce…?

They even gave me some baked sweets to take home at the end, and I left very satisfied. Thank you for the meal!
