Our first stop was Byodoin in Uji

Lunch and sweets while we waited

After making our way around Byodoin, it was just before 11:00. But the interior visit wasn’t until 12:30, so we still had plenty of time. We decided to have an early lunch.

We headed to Torikiku, a little back toward JR Uji Station. Luckily, we got in without having to wait.

The restaurant had both counter seating and tatami seating, and I ordered the chasoba zaru set. It was 800 yen. So cheap!

We still had quite a bit of time before the interior visit, so dessert was next. When you think of Uji, you think tea, so we went to Mitsuboshien Kanbayashi Sannyu Honten in search of tea sweets.

The second floor was an tea museum called the “Uji Tea Reference Room,” so I took a look there too. After buying some hojicha at the shop on the first floor, we left.
