Wrapping Up with Italian Food!
IL LAGO
Our whirlwind 2-day, 1-night trip to Kyoto was over in no time, and we decided to end it with Italian food. We went to IL LAGO.

As soon as you step inside, there’s counter seating, and beyond that, a refrigerator filled with small appetizer plates (cichetti) catches your eye.

There were all kinds of menu options, written up on a handwritten blackboard 👍

We kicked things off with some sparkling white wine and a few of the small plates: anchovy eggs, spicy stir-fried whitebait and Manganji peppers, and a lotus root mascarpone salad.

Freshly fried rapeseed blossom fritters. Crispy, with a pleasant bitterness.

Carpaccio.

Turnip and savoy spinach gratin. Piping hot.

Spaghettini with octopus in tomato sauce and Brussels sprouts. So good!

To finish, we had what seemed to be one of their signature dishes: a 100% duck hamburger steak. It was delicious.

The only downside was how loud the group next to us was, but they seemed to be having such a good time that it couldn't really be helped… (lol)
