Biryani, Again

INDIA GATE

As soon as I left the hotel, it was time for lunch. I headed to INDIA GATE, a restaurant specializing in biryani. It was my second visit.

It’s part of the same group as SPICE GATE, which I went to the day before. Yesterday was curry; today was biryani.

The weekly special was whitebait and fresh seaweed biryani, and I had it as a half-and-half plate with their standard sea bream dashi chicken biryani.

The rich aroma hit me the moment I took a bite… It’s biryani, but it’s evolved in a completely different direction from Indian biryani, and it was an outstanding plate. There was also a wide variety of side dishes:

  • Mapo tofu
  • Garlic chive chutney
  • Chinese yam achar (extra)
  • Pickled red cabbage and myoga ginger
  • Jellyfish and wasabi raita
  • Onion achar
  • Vegetable raita
  • Cabbage and wakame dressed in a spiced nuta sauce

That was the lineup. The only word for it is wonderful. 👍

I had a cup of chai after the meal. It was incredibly hot, but apparently you’re supposed to pour it into a shallow plate to let it cool before drinking it… lol

Thanks for the meal. I was completely satisfied.
