Winter in Matsumoto
Curry and Asian Rice Dishes at Ganeisha
I left Shinjuku at 9:00 a.m. and arrived in Matsumoto at 11:39 a.m., right around lunchtime. Since Matsumoto is also known as a curry town, I headed to Ganeisha, a place I’d been wanting to visit for a while.

There was a short line outside, and I waited about 20 minutes before getting in.

It kind of looks like Hindi script.
There are four kinds of curry, and they vary by day. It seems you can check the latest updates on their Instagram account. This was the lineup on the day I visited:

- Chicken Curry
- Oyster Coconut Curry
- Lamb Keema Curry
- Squid and Taro Curry
Naan on the wall!!!
What makes this place special is that they serve curry and “Asian rice dishes” together on a single plate. It’s called the “Ganeisha Two-Item Plate.” You can also choose two curries or two Asian rice dishes. The two-item plate also comes with side dishes.
This time, I chose the Oyster Coconut Curry and lu rou fan.

I also added the Chicken Curry as a mini curry. For toppings, I got a soft-boiled spiced egg, and I upgraded the rice to a medium portion (+50 yen).

The Oyster Coconut Curry was superb, with rich oyster flavor infused throughout the sauce. The slightly sweet lu rou fan was also incredibly good, making it a truly happy plate. I also enjoyed the fragrant Chicken Curry, which seems to be one of their standards.
Overall, the heat was fairly mild, so partway through I added some of the spicy table seasoning to change up the flavor. Thanks for the meal! I’d love to come back.
