Things to Enjoy in Central Matsumoto, Other Than the Castle
A Stylish Spot: Shinmai Media Garden
As you walk along the main road toward Matsumoto Castle, Shinmai Media Garden comes into view. It is the Matsumoto headquarters of the Shinano Mainichi Shimbun, but the lower floors house a community space and a selection of places to eat and drink.
It was a wonderfully open, free-form space—not just with a small souvenir shop, but also a piano anyone could play, a parent and child napping on a bench, and some older men holding a meeting. I suppose that was exactly the idea?
