Trying Curries from Four Countries at Matsumoto Meeyau!

This was my first time trying Meeyau, Matsumoto’s famous ethnic curry restaurant. I went to the station-front branch, which had only just opened in December 2021. (Apparently it’s the first franchise location in Matsumoto.)

The menu is all-you-can-eat curry only! There are 9 varieties in total.

Here was the lineup that day:

  • Thai-style dry curry
  • Thai-style green curry
  • Thai-style red curry
  • Sri Lankan-style beef curry
  • Indian-style pork curry
  • Indian-style chicken curry
  • Thai-style pineapple curry
  • Japanese curry
  • Japanese white stew

What an amazingly varied spread!

You serve everything onto a flat plate, but since most of these curries probably weren’t originally meant to be eaten that way, it was actually pretty tricky, haha.

For my first plate, I mostly went with the Indian and Sri Lankan curries, plus the Thai-style dry curry. The Indian chicken curry was so spicy it made me cry.

The Thai curries were delicious too. Ginger, maybe? They had a really distinctive flavor. Thanks for the meal!

The emergency staircase at the nearby Alpico Plaza is wonderful too, so why not check that out as well?

An artistic emergency staircase
