A Night at Hyatt Regency Kyoto

For the second night, I stayed at Hyatt Regency Kyoto.

For various reasons, I ended up staying at a different hotel each night on this trip, and for my second night I checked into Hyatt Regency Kyoto!

The hotel is in an incredible location, with Kyoto National Museum right across the street and Sanjusangendo next door. I looked up the history of the site on Wikipedia, and this is what it said:

"The area where this hotel stands, including the adjacent Sanjusangendo, was once the site of Hōjūji-dono, the cloistered imperial palace of Emperor Go-Shirakawa, who in the late Heian period was the most powerful figure in the imperial court." — Hyatt Regency Kyoto – Wikipedia

Right, of course this wasn't just some ordinary piece of land, haha. Kyoto never ceases to amaze me.

I'll be visiting Kyoto National Museum the next morning!

The lobby ceiling was a distinctive space, decorated with what looked like openwork panels in Japanese patterns. (Though maybe I shouldn't joke that they simply decorated the original building as it was.)

After checking in, I headed up to my room.

The room I stayed in this time was the lowest-category "Guest Room." I was told the tapestry beyond the bed was made using kimono fabric.

The tea bags provided in the room were from Lupicia. (The photo is blurry, though.)

The bathroom was spacious and came with a separate washing area. (Though after spraining my ankle later, I ended up not being able to soak in the tub… sob.)

Since the bathroom was separate, the toilet was of course in its own separate room too!

The start of day 3

Breakfast at Hyatt Regency

My 4-day, 3-night Kyoto trip had reached the halfway point, and day 3 was beginning. I had breakfast at the hotel that morning.

I could choose between a Japanese set breakfast and a Western one, and I went with the Japanese set. It was quite a spread. (The table was just way too small.)

There was even grilled fish that didn't fit on the tray. It was delicious, but the space was so cramped that it was hard to eat comfortably…

Salad, bread, and a few other items were served buffet-style, and even with the Japanese set breakfast I could help myself to them. I was happy to see bread pudding, which is one of my absolute favorites.

For Disney park fans, the number "33" might make you do a double take, but this 33 is for Sanjusangendo, haha.
