Amid the Coldest Wave in a Decade
Staying at Dormy Inn Nagano
For my first night in Nagano, I stayed at Natural Hot Spring Zenkō-no-Yu Dormy Inn Nagano. It’s the reliable, well-loved Dormy Inn everyone knows—and the room felt a little more luxurious than the bare minimum.

Since Dormy Inn is known for its large public bath, I headed there as soon as I got to my room to warm up my thoroughly chilled body. The whole bath area felt spacious, and the sauna was fairly large too, which was nice.
The downside was that the three lounge chairs were out by the open-air bath, so it was too cold to actually use them…(laughs) I wish they’d move them inside during winter. And this is a complete aside, but I do wonder whether naming it “Zenkō-no-Yu” might get them in trouble with Zenkōji Temple.
