Sightseeing Around Uji
Exploring the Architecture of Keihan Uji Station
After visiting Ujigami Shrine, I headed back toward central Kyoto. On the way, I walked to Keihan Uji Station, and even the public phone booth was done in Uji style.
My last stop in Uji was this station itself. It was designed by Hiroyuki Wakabayashi, an architect from Kyoto. The entrance from this side doesn’t look all that unusual, though…
Then all of a sudden, you pass underneath the station…
…and on the other side, this strange, open space spreads out before you. It looks so cool!!!
Apparently, the circular motif is meant to look like a cylinder lying on its side when seen from above or the side, and it was inspired by tea fields… I never would have guessed if nobody had told me, haha.

It has the kind of stylish look that would make a great setting for a fashion shoot, doesn’t it?
Even the path leading to the elevator looks this cool. The only problem is how far away it is!
I would have liked to enjoy it a bit more, but my train was just about to leave, so I had to head out. Uji was so much fun!
