In Matsumoto, Where Old and New Blend Together
Ceramika Matsumoto
After visiting two art museums, my sightseeing in central Matsumoto was entering its second half. I headed toward Matsumoto Castle. There were views of the Metoba River and the Northern Alps. I just wished the weather had been a little better.

The first place I went was Ceramika Matsumoto, a shop on the ground floor of the stately building I had spotted across the river.
It is the importer’s shop for the Polish brand Ceramika Artystyczna, which I occasionally see at department stores in Tokyo.

This building is actually municipal housing, called Agata Danchi. What a design. The shop was filled with plates decorated with beautiful hand-painted patterns, and it was fun just to look around. I bought just one plate.
