Arriving in Hakata: First the Hotel, Then Sightseeing…
ACROS Fukuoka
And here it is:
ACROS Fukuoka
Its stepped roof is completely covered in greenery, so it looks like a mountain. Actually, it is a mountain. I've never seen architecture like this before.

And what's more, this mountain—
you can climb it
. And if you can climb it, of course you have to, so I did. I just kept walking along a path thick with trees.

It was hard to believe this was the rooftop of a building…

The endless stairs made it pretty grueling, but being able to take in a panoramic view of Hakata along the way was worth it.

The rooftop is open to visitors too, and you can see the sea. The weather was lovely.

Seen from the front, ACROS Fukuoka looks very grand. (The lingering scent of the bubble era, followed by the smell of tax money.)

Since I was there, I went inside too. There was a stylish see-through clock.

I read that this site was originally home to the Fukuoka Prefectural Government Office, and there was a fountain made using its columns. I found myself circling the fountain, wondering why on earth they decided to make it, and what they must have been thinking…

Photos of the old prefectural office building were on display.

From a distance, it looked incredibly suspicious. I wonder if they light it up at night.

Anyway, it was now 13:30. I was starving, so I headed to the next stop in search of some Hakata food. To be continued…
