Let’s head home after one last good meal

Torikawa Takenoya, Amu Plaza Kokura

After enjoying a quick drink at the kakuuchi, I moved on to an izakaya and went into Torikawa Takenoya in the same station building.

This wasn’t Hakata, but they had goma saba, a Hakata specialty, so I ordered that first.

Then I also had their specialty, torikawa skewers, chicken skin wrapped into curls and grilled until crisp.

When I first heard about them, torikawa skewers of chicken skin wrapped into curls and grilled until crisp, they didn’t sound especially appealing, but once I tried them, they were much better than I expected. They’re completely different from the chicken-skin skewers you get in the Kanto region.

I also ordered the whale tatsuta-age, meat marinated in soy sauce and ginger, coated lightly, and deep-fried.

It was tasty, but I was a little concerned that it seemed almost raw inside. Is tatsuta-age supposed to be like that?
