Let’s Visit the Western-Style Houses the Next Day

Heading to Kobe’s Western-Style Houses the Next Day

The day after USJ, I went to see the Western-style houses that still remain in Kobe.

Starbucks Kobe Kitano Ijinkan Store

Walking from the hotel toward the Western-style houses, I came across what is probably one of the most popular Starbucks locations in Japan,

the "Kobe Kitano Ijinkan Store."

The Western-style building looked wonderful against the blue sky.

I picked up a Kobe-exclusive Starbucks card.

Next time I come, I’d like to relax and enjoy a coffee here.

Into the Western-Style House District

As I continued up the slope, I reached an area filled with Western-style houses.

I heard that this Western-style house, with its distinctive large tower, is called the "Weathercock House."

Heading to Uroko House

My destination was the most famous one of all: Uroko House. It was even farther up the hill. Admission was about 1000 yen. Apparently it’s called Uroko House because the exterior walls look like fish scales.

They say touching the boar’s nose brings you happiness. That must be why it’s so shiny.

For some reason, there was a London public telephone box in the garden.

Inside, there were lots of antique items on display.

I’d love to try living in a room like this for a little while.

And then I’d serve my guests whiskey neat…

The typewriter really suited the room.

The room filled with hobby-related items also had a lovely atmosphere.

From the museum next door, you can get a panoramic view of Kobe.

Also, for some reason, there was a Buddha head placed outside, though I have no idea why.

Uroko House was a wonderful Western-style residence.
