To Miyajima

By Train and Ferry

After lunch, we headed for Miyajima. The streetcars looked extremely crowded and would have taken longer, so we decided to go by JR instead.

To get to Miyajima, of course, you take a ferry. I was surprised to see that the ferry terminal had been rebuilt and was brand new.

The ferry was also packed, and we barely managed to find a spot. Of course, we had to stand.

After getting off the ferry, we headed to our hotel for the night, Miyajima Hotel Makoto.

Itsukushima Shrine in Heavy Crowds

After dropping off our luggage at the hotel and taking a short break, we headed to Itsukushima Shrine.

The great torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine

Because it was a three-day weekend, Itsukushima Shrine was incredibly crowded, and even walking along the approach was difficult. There was also a huge line just to enter the shrine, and around the Soribashi Bridge, massive numbers of people were gathered waiting to take photos.

People were sitting and resting all over the shrine grounds, and it really drove home that this is not a place to visit during a three-day weekend.
