A Night of Enjoying Hakata’s Food Scene!
Enjoying Warmed Sake at Machiya Akariya
This was my one-night stay in Hakata, the day before heading to Saga. After watching the fountain show at Canal City Hakata, I took a taxi to my next destination.
My first stop was Machiya Akariya, which I had reserved in advance.

A friend I was traveling with introduced me to the place. It’s a shop where you can enjoy both sake sales and delicious food.
We started with the otoshi appetizer.

They had a wide selection of sake, lined up across an entire wall. If you tell them what you like, they’ll choose the perfect glass for you.

At this shop, they recommend enjoying Japanese sake warmed. Every dish was prepared with great care, and all of them paired beautifully with the drinks.
The black dish was nori nametake, made with plenty of seaweed. The kinpira on the right was seasoned with cumin, and that one was especially to my taste.

The boiled dumplings were made with lamb, and I loved those too. The tuna was served with shungiku in nuta dressing.

The yellow dish was fresh karasumi. It was exactly the kind of “sinfully good” flavor you can’t resist (lol).

The last thing I had was a motsuni stew made with offal from pigs raised on grapes.

That wraps up this stop for now, because I still had another place to visit after this…
